Find Job Vacancies > Summer Vacation Work
Whatever you want to do, our advice is start early, especially if you want to work abroad or wish to work for the summer in a scheme organised by a large blue-chip company. Programmes in large companies usually last between 8 and 12 weeks and are paid. Typical career areas are marketing, business management, personnel, finance and law. They are often only on offer to students before their final year so don't leave it until after you graduate.
Don't forget that many vacation work opportunities won't be advertised and many students find work come about as a result of speculative applications or by word-of-mouth. You may have to be a little creative in your search or use some of the resources in this website, or if you are still in Liverpool then call into the
Careers & Employability Service.
France or Spain are probably the easiest EU countries to find work in if you want to work overseas - they need English-speaking staff to cater for tourists.
Why do it?
It will add a range of skills and experience to your CV and you may also make contacts so you can do some networking later if you want to work in that career area after graduation. Vacation work is also a great way to get good references. It may be one way to help you get into (or at least gain experience in) a popular occupation.
Many large employers use summer work as a way of getting to see potential graduate recruits so if you are interested in getting a graduate job in a large company it is worth checking to see if they run summer programmes for penultimate year students.
