"Where do I start?" is one of our most frequently asked questions so if you feel that it is all a bit bewildering then you're not alone!
Many students don't know what they want to do when they graduate but rather than put it off until your final year or after you have graduated, start planning now so you can develop some ideas. It is a process not a one-off activity so deciding on a career takes time.
The graduate recruitment cycle begins as early as the September you start your final year. For example, opportunities in the Fast Stream Civil Service, including the Foreign & Commonwealth Office have a closing date in mid-September. Many of the large recruiters have closing dates in October and November and while some recruit throughout the year it is usually advisable to apply before January as places can fill very quickly.
While away from the university you might find it useful to have a look at
the kind of vacancies that are advertised for graduates to give you an idea
of what to expect in your final year.
You can also look at the graduate vacancy information published nationally by both Prospects and Hobsons.
