The best employment prospects are in the areas that contribute most to the Chilean economy namely mining, fisheries, agriculture, paper, wood and textiles. Foreign nationals are usually only recruited for jobs for which no suitably skilled Chilean is available. Employers are interested in applicants who are highly educated and fluent in Spanish and English (with other languages an advantage).

Teaching English as a foreign language may be possible - particularly business English. The British Council in Santiago produces a list or private language schools. To apply, contact the Director of each school.
